Meet The Team
Paul Haskell – Golf Zone Owner & Industry Expert
With nearly 26 years in the golf retail game, Paul (Hasky to most) is the heart and history of Golf Zone. His journey began unexpectedly when he swapped welding gear for golf gear to help out at his family's store, Sharpies Golf Barn. That leap sparked a lifelong career, and since then, Hasky has weathered mergers, market shifts, and plenty of memorable moments — including not one, but two hole-in-ones of his own (both on the number 6 holes at Pungarehu and Rotorua Golf Courses, respectively).
Known for his honest, no-pressure approach, Hasky is a local legend who’s just as passionate about helping beginners as he is about utilising his industry expertise to customise the perfect, cutting-edge clubs for clients who want to truly advance their game. As the Golf Zone’s senior fitting expert, he utilises Foresight simulator technology, ensuring customers are provided with transparent data that will assist in pairing them with exactly the right clubs.
He’s a proud sponsor of regional golf clubs and key tournaments and is particularly motivated to support ambrose tournaments in honour of worthy causes, like Hospice, Conductive Education and the Mellowpuff Charitable Trust. Ask him what his go-to club is and he’ll tell you it’s his hybrid, although he’s quick to point out his putter is the true workhorse in his bag.
Who and where would his dream golfing round take place? At Augusta with Tiger, John Daly, and Jordan Spieth. Classic.
Dean Baldock – Product Specialist & Golf Guru
Dean (Baldy to some) brings his sharp expertise and a true love for the game of golf to the Golf Zone floor. With a handicap of +0.5 and over 25 years of playing experience, he doesn’t just talk the talk — he’s teeing it up weekly at New Plymouth Golf Club and courses nationwide.
He thrives on helping customers make informed choices, providing his knowledge to ensure the perfect fit. He specialises in accessories, apparel, footwear, and club regripping, and he swears by rangefinders as a must-have for every golfer. His best days at work? When customers come back grinning with a win or a personal best, thanks to advice or gear he helped them choose.
He’s also a big supporter of growing the game, working with Taranaki Golf and the She Loves Golf programmes. For Baldy, golf is the ultimate personal challenge, which he describes as “the never-ending pursuit of perfection that only you control.”
His dream round? St Andrews with Tiger, Rory, and Louis Baldock — and Steve Williams on the bag, of course.
